ürzburger Hofbräu

has a rich tradition: Our brewery was founded in the year 1643 by the Main-Franconian Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn and is therefore the oldest business still in existence in Würzburg today.

The idea of founding a royal court brewery to provide the men with delicious beer in order to placate them developed during the time of the Thirty Years War when the thirsty soldiers had drunk almost all of the wine supplies. In memory of the founder of our brewery, the crown of the Prince-Bishop still decorates the brewer’s star in our company logo.
